Festive cheer at Ross Bay is building up. Twinkling Christmas trees are decorated with colourful baubles and the cosy log burners are being lit in the holiday cottages. The festive celebrations are ready to start as our first guests begin to arrive. Corks and bubbles are beginning to pop.
Dinner tables will soon be dressed and set for the Christmas festivities to begin with our nearest and dearest. Excitement is in the air as preparations for the stuffed turkey with fabulous roast potatoes, honeyed glazed parsnips and carrots, Brussel sprouts with chestnuts are underway. Oh, don’t forget the Yorkshire Puddings! Will there be room for Christmas Pudding, cheese, biscuits, port wine and mince pies. Of course there will be!
Early Christmas Present Arrivals on The Farm
On the farm some wonderful new Christmas presents have been delivered already.
We have some delightful new born piglets enjoying their first taste of Christmas. They are being kept warm indoors with their mother who is called ‘Oinky’ under the warming heat lamp. We also welcome some very cute ducklings to our lovely part of southern Scotland too. These are a lovely breed called Call Ducks who are the smallest breed of domestic ducks.
So What will our Guests get up to Whilst Staying at Ross Bay this Christmas?
The weather always brings some excitement here. This brings gorgeous changes in the colours of the sky and the mood of the sea, making the local views and nearby walks ever interesting.
Clear your head and blow away the cobwebs. Grab the excited dogs and trek off for a hearty walk down to Brighouse Bay and Fauldbog Bay. Watch the wild waves crashing on the beach. Then follow the path around the peninsula and headland to see the lighthouse on Little Ross Island.
Dogs love running across the sands at Ross Bay when the tide is out or skim stones if the tide is in.
Sunsets & Stargazing in Galloway Forest Park
For the more adventurous, drive up to Galloway Forest Park and enjoy an energetic walk in the spectacular hills and around the lochs. Watch the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Wrap up warm and go stargazing in what are some of the clearest skies in Britain. Clatteringshaws Loch and Kirroughtree Visitor Centre. These both are the perfect spots from which to view the marvels of a clear night sky.
On a clear night you can see shooting stars, vivid star constellations, vibrant planets and incredible views of the Milky Way. This is a great way to reflect on the year and ring in the festive season.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
We wish all of our guests past and present a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year from us all at Ross Bay Retreat.
