Property Information:

The Old Cheeseloft is a comfortable spacious two storey dwelling, sleeping up to five, with a Hybrid multifuel burning stove, and central heating throughout by means of underfloor heating downstairs and radiators throughout.

The Kitchen

Downstairs, there is a super kitchen with plate rack, cupboard space and wicker baskets for all your dry foods. There is also an oak dining table with chairs looking straight out across Ross Bay – dine in style with a great view!

The kitchen is well equipped with, quality cutlery, glasses, bowls serving dishes, ample crockery along with microwave, coffee maker, and modern dishwasher, washing machine and a fridge/freezer. There is a range cooker with a fan assisted oven, second oven, separate grill and five electric hobs, extractor fan,  matching kettle and toaster, and coffee maker.

You can prepare a tasty dish with the smell of the sea, and sound of the waves as the tide rolls in towards The Old Cheeseloft.

Imagine the French doors open, sea air blowing as you enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony (whilst watching the children play on the beach).

For alfresco dining (balcony, beach or rear patio) there is a selection of unbreakable plates, glasses et cetera.

For the kitchen we provide a “just in case you forget” box including dishwasher tablets, dishcloths, washing up liquid, tea towels, some tea, coffee, sugar. We are happy to receive an Asda/Tesco delivery for you prior to your arrival, just let us know.

The Living Areas

The hallway is ideal to house those boots, wellies, coats, equipment et cetera for exploring the great outdoors.  Just off the hallway downstairs there is a bathroom with WC, sink, and large walk in shower.

From the window seats you can gaze at the panoramic open sea views towards Meikle Ross and the Cumbrian Fells in the distance.

The “snug” sitting room (above) has a leather settee, flat screen TV, and WiFi.  From the snug you can go out into the fresh sea air on to the smaller of two balconies of The Old Cheeseloft.

The Sitting Room

The Idle Tides Room (pictured above), just as it says, idle your time away in this light and airy room just off the kitchen diner, with double French doors and a larger balcony with some outdoor seating. We have two Ekornes “Stressless” recliner chairs with foot stools, and a comfy leather settee, along with a flat screen TV, and DVD player.

You will find some DVDs, board games, toys, books and magazines for you to enjoy whilst relaxing and unwinding. There is a hybrid Dowling multifuel burning stove please bring your own kindling, wood or coal for those cosy nights inside with that relaxing toasty feeling.

There is also a delightful, private, enclosed garden to the rear with patio area, BBQ and seating.

The Three Bedrooms

The solid oak staircase with chrome spindles leads to the first floor where there are three bedrooms and a family bathroom.

“Views straight out across Ross Bay”

The master bedroom boasting a king size bed with views straight out across Ross Bay,and a lovely en suite shower room, a twin bedroom with two single beds again benefitting from spectacular sea views. The third (rear) bedroom has wardrobe space, and a single bed. It looks onto the rear enclosed garden and old farm buildings!  They have to be somewhere!!

We provide soft bedlinen, all season tog duvets available to suit your comforts and requirements. There are also additional blankets, and luxurious mattress toppers available.

The Bathroom

The family bathroom upstairs comprises of a toilet, wash hand basin, electric shaving point, a bath where you can relax a while, and an overhead invigorating shower. Our biomass central heating system is sure to have the bathroom warm enticing you to rejuvenate those aching muscles. We provide a “just in case you forget” box with some hand wash, shower gel, bath soak, shampoo, conditioner, and toilet roll. Bath and hand towels are provided along with a bath mat.

On arrival you will be greeted by either a complementary homemade chocolate fudge cake, Victoria sponge cake with fresh cream and strawberries or strawberry jam, lemon drizzle cake. We also provide Cream ‘O’ Galloway ice cream and a warm kettle to kick start your relaxing break.

From The Old Cheeseloft you can gaze out at the sea by day and the stars by night, contemplating what to explore first. Try the rockpools across the lane, go beachcombing, roam the woodlands on the hill, see the abundant wildlife, try sea fishing (bring your own tackle & boat!) or visit the best loved local towns.

Pricing Options for Ross Bay Retreat

Please note that our prices vary according to occupancy. The basic price is for 4 guests, we offer low occupancy discounts for couples and for a single person and for 5 persons add £20 to the basic price. We try to be fair to all our guests wishing to stay at Ross Bay.

There is ample parking for 2 cars next to The Old Cheeseloft along. There is an enclosed garden to the rear, housing a small wooden lockable shed.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, (usually maximum of 2 but please contact us). Please bring along with them their own bedding, leads and towels for drying dirty sandy/muddy paws after having fun!

If there is anything additional you may require or would like to know please give me a call or email and we will see what we can do to try and accommodate your requests.

We can also offer vouchers should you wish to gift a stay or a voucher of any value towards a stay at The Old Cheeseloft to a loved one or friend who deserves a fantastic treat. Please just email or call us to discuss.

Directions

From the A75 go into Kirkcudbright on the A711. In Kirkcudbright turn right onto Bridge Street (opposite the Church) and towards the A755, crossing over the estuary. In half a mile or so there is a sign for the B727 to Borgue turn left here and follow the coastal road for approximately 3.5 miles.

There is a sign for Ross Bay and Brighouse Bay (turn left) and in approximately 1⁄2 mile the road forks and Ross Bay is signposted to the left. Follow the lane (approx. 1 1⁄4 miles) and when you reach the sea you know you have arrived. The Old Cheeseloft is stone built with Chartwell green windows, surrounded by an apple white painted border next door to Dairy House which is painted Honeysuckle cream. It is on your right just past Creel Cottage (painted dollshouse pastel blue).
