Byre By The Sea, was just as it says until late 2018, when work commenced.  Opened in mid July 2019, it has been completely renovated and completes our quartet of seafront cottages at Ross Bay.

Property Details:

Byre By The Sea is a comfortable spacious single storey dwelling, sleeping up to four, with a multi fuel burning Charnwood Arc 5 stove, and central heating throughout from our biomass boiler system.

The Kitchen

There is a lovely open plan kitchen / dining / sitting area which boasts spectacularly large windows and doors with a small balcony to the east looking straight out across the bay, and a large balcony / patio area to the south which enjoys the sea views, sunrises and sunsets. With a glass topped dining table and chairs looking straight out across Ross Bay – dine in style with great views!

The kitchen is well equipped with, quality cutlery, glasses, bowls serving dishes, ample crockery along with microwave, coffee maker, and modern integrated slimline dishwasher, and a fridge/freezer. There is a hob with a fan assisted oven, and grill along with extractor fan above. The Breville matching kettle and four slice toaster, and coffee maker all on hand.

Are you ready to prepare a tasty dish with the smell of the sea, and sound of the waves as the tide rolls in towards the old byre? Imagine the sliding doors open, sea air blowing as you enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony (whilst watching the children play on the beach).

For the kitchen we provide a “just in case you forget” box including dishwasher tablets, dishcloths, washing up liquid, tea towels, some tea, coffee, sugar. We are happy to receive an Asda/Tesco delivery for you prior to your arrival just let us know.

The Outside Patio Area

The delightful south facing patio area has BBQ and seating area behind the glass balcony so you can spend late nights in the fresh air gazing at the stars! For alfresco dining (balcony, beach or rear patio) there is a selection of unbreakable plates, glasses, etc.

The Living Areas

The utility cupboard is ideal to house those boots, wellies, coats, equipment etc. for exploring the great outdoors.  It is home to the washing machine, and houses the biomass pipes making it an ideal drying cupboard just in case you get wet clothes in Scotland!

We have two Ekornes “Stressless” recliner chairs with foot stools, and a comfy leather settee, along with a flat screen TV, integrated DVD player.  You will find some DVDs, board games, books and magazines for you to enjoy whilst relaxing and unwinding. There is a Charnwood Arc 5 multifuel burning stove for which you will need to bring your own kindling, wood or coal for those cosy nights inside with that relaxing toasty feeling.  Idle your time away, because life is better by the sea and time stands still.

The Bedrooms

Byre By The Sea has two bedrooms. The master bedroom boasting a king size bed with views straight out across Ross Bay, and a lovely ensuite shower room. The twin bedroom has two single beds again benefiting from spectacular sea views.  Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes. Soft bedlinen, all season tog duvets available to suit your comforts and requirements. Ther are additional blankets and luxurious mattress toppers.

The Bathroom

The family bathroom comprises of a toilet, wash hand basin, electric shaving point, shower and a separate bath where you can relax a while.  Our biomass central heating system is sure to have the bathroom warm enticing you to rejuvenate those aching muscles. We provide a “just in case you forget” box with some hand wash, shower gel, bath soak, shampoo, conditioner, and toilet roll. Bath and hand towels are provided along with a bath mat.

Ross Farm

Please be aware that directly behind Byre By The Sea are some farm buildings (they need to be somewhere!!) You cannot see them from the cottage but we currently use them to store straw and as a farm machinery store. Occasionally we have young cattle in the shed, or some sheep at lambing time (March usually). There will not be much noise or disturbance but we are a working farm and have cattle and sheep, along with ponies, geese, pigeons and a few hens!! The Other Important Stuff – Cakes & Local Area

On arrival you will be greeted by either a complementary homemade chocolate fudge cake, Victoria sponge cake with fresh cream and strawberries or strawberry jam, lemon drizzle cake. We also provide Cream ‘O’ Galloway ice cream and a warm kettle to kick start your relaxing break.

From The Old Cheeseloft you can gaze out at the sea by day and the stars by night, contemplating what to explore first. Try the rockpools across the lane, go beachcombing, roam the woodlands on the hill, see the abundant wildlife, try sea fishing (bring your own tackle & boat!) or visit the best loved local towns.

Prcing Options for ‘Byre by The Sea’ Holiday Cottage

The basic price is for 4 guests, we offer low occupancy discounts for couples and for a single person, and for 5 persons add £20 to the basic price. We try to be fair to all our guests wishing to stay at Ross Bay.

There is ample parking next to Byre By The Sea for 2 cars, along with an enclosed patio area to the side. There is a BBQ, and folding chairs for you to enjoy.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, (usually maximum of 2 but please contact us). Please bring along with them their own bedding, leads and towels for drying dirty sandy/muddy paws after having fun!

Directions

From the A75 go into Kirkcudbright on the A711. In Kirkcudbright turn right onto Bridge Street (opposite the Church) and towards the A755, crossing over the estuary. In half a mile or so there is a sign for the B727 to Borgue turn left here and follow the coastal road for approximately 3.5 miles.

There is a sign for Ross Bay and Brighouse Bay (turn left) and in approximately 1⁄2 mile the road forks and Ross Bay is signposted to the left. Follow the lane (approx. 1 1⁄4 miles) and when you reach the sea you know you have arrived. Byre By The Sea is stone built with white windows. It is next door to The Old Cheeseloft, just past Dairy House which is painted Honeysuckle cream, and past Creel Cottage (painted dollshouse pastel blue).
